Q. Congratulations Pavan. What made you choose the CA as a career option?
A. Thanks! My elder brother is CA, and has been my inspiration right from the start. I am also very inspired by my mentor, CA Professor D. Sharma.
Q. Tell us about your experience during articleship.
A. I completed the required 3.5 years articleship at VK Surana & Co., Nagpur. Keeping articleship sincerely helped a lot not only in developing an understanding of the technical and conceptual clarity to the questions that we studied, but also in building the confidence necessary for the processing and preservation of the situation of pressure and time management effectively.
Q. Did the alternative day schedule exams CA work for you?
A. Yes, of course, an alternative schedule of the day helps a lot. If we have one full day of vacation before the next article, we can plan a study really well. For each document, I made a 20-hour plans, so that the total portion may be revised within a specified time.
Q. So what was your training strategy?
A. I had one main strategy - to examine 100% parts and solve 100% of the paper. It was an integral part of mental preparation. Once you decide not to give come-what-may, determination and perseverance that takes you through. I was planning to study in advance. My goal is to perform at least four readings each subject before exams. I set the task to complete the first reading in the two months before the end of August.
Then I completed the first review of the end of September. In the first week of October, we had a series of tests on the CAPS (coaching institute) that have helped us a lot to find out where we are and the areas that need special attention. Then I tried to finish even read (important areas) within the last 20 days before the exam. Exam days were the most important of them, and I tried, and went through the entire site, following the 20-hour plan.
Q. Is CA coaching important?
A. I took coaching for three practical subjects - accounting, financial management and costing. For the other subjects I have not taken any coaching. I feel that for practical subjects, except self-study path. Even if you visit a class, you should eventually learn things on your own.
Q: Are you in favor of studying for long hours?
A. I was planning to study the topic-wise. On average, I studied for 12 hours per day. I believe that if you want to achieve something that you never before, you have to do what you have never done before.
Q. Did you face any tough subjects?
A. Initially, I found indirect taxes to be a complex subject. So, I decided to take my fear I know best - before that, convert weakness into strength. In the last 20 days immediately before the exams, I had planned to study this subject in the day for three hours. In the end, I got a huge confidence and scored the highest marks (86) in this thread!
Q. CA is tough. Truth or myth?
A. It's not as difficult as it is perceived. It's all about holding your nerves. Anyone who plays a mental game well, this "King of the Ring." It is very easy to give up, but if you hold on and not to give up at a critical moment, success will come. If seen in the right direction CA exams can be ordered and success can be achieved. If you do not learn now, you will have to study later and that too much more at much psychological pressure. "So give the best that you can in the first frame, and challenge your limits instead of limiting problems.
Q: What advice would you give to future CA aspirants?
A. Take articleship sincerely. Golden Mantra "Plan your work and work your plan." Time management is the name of the game. We always said sir, try to understand everything, and nothing to remember. Developing conceptual clarity is very important aspect of the study of Central Asia.
