In acting, the actor is trying to contain or increase the aspects of his / her real identity in order to portray the actions and motives of some other nature for a specific period of time.
    The actor is said to "take on the role of" other nature or trying to get into the shoes of another character, fictitious or otherwise, as a rule, in favor of the audience, but also because it can bring a sense of artistic satisfaction.
    According to Greek legend, he was the first actor Thespis Greece, in whose honor was coined word tragic. Today, the word refers to a successful life, glamor and glitzy life of attention, a lot of fans of the fan, fabulous wealth, except the name and slavy. The life suddenly seems to leap from the ordinary to extra-ordinary.

Qualifications for Acting:


It is said that actors are born and not made. Well the acting schools of today specialize in making actors. Even otherwise to become a thorough professional a wannabe actor not only needs to hone his/her acting skills but certain other finer points as well.

A formal program gives a person exposure, training and education and increases the chances of success. The minimum educational qualifications required to get admitted in such a course is ‘a degree in graduation in any discipline from a recognized university in India’.

A good command over the chosen language of instruction is a must. Another pre-requisite is experience in drama productions in the school or amateur drama troupes. The National School of Drama, New Delhi offers a course in the Diploma course in Dramatic Arts, which is recognized by the Government of India for the purpose of recruitment to superior posts and services under the Central Government, where specialization in the field of Dramatics is required. The prerequisite for this course is a degree in graduation with at least 10 years of experience in amateur drama.

Acting Skills & Attributes


Actors should have good vocal projection, clarity of speech, physical expressiveness, a good sense of perspective, emotional availability and ability to imagine and visualize.

Multi-faceted actors often acquire skills in singing, dancing, emotional expressiveness, imitating dialects and accents, improvisation observation and emulation.

Acting Job Prospects


Besides name and fame, hefty sums of money are assured for a successful actor. India has the distinction of being the largest producer of film producers and financiers who make quality films having global competence

Besides working for soap operas, one has the opportunity to showcase talent on the many talent-hunt programs conducted by television channels. These programs select candidates for new film and television projects.

Government of India offers job opportunities in different fields like news readers in Doordarshan, Aakashwaani, and teaching posts in FTII, Pune and National School of Drama, New Delhi. With the huge popularity gained by Satellite Channels, there are numerous job opportunities coming up in the private sector too. Different private acting schools offering courses in acting also have tie-ups with some film producers where the students can get a break in acting.
